1998 Audi A6 Avant quattro

Every Audi A6 Avant (apart from the 1.9 TDI) is available as a quattro with permanent four-wheel drive. This improves even further on the already outstanding traction and dynamic performance of the Audi A6 with front-wheel drive. Differing grip properties on road surfaces, in rain, when aquaplaning occurs or on snow as well as those which can occur when taking emergency avoidance measures are easier to handle with an Audi quattro. Its permanent four-wheel drive enhances driving pleasure in all conditions. The turn-in effect ranging from neutral to light understeer, excellent directional stability and agile cornering make Audi A6 quattro models the most reliable of companions whatever the situation. The four-wheel drive Audi A6 Avant is predestined for use as a towing car in both the leisure and business areas on account of its tremendous pulling power, in particular that of the V6 models. Horse-box or yacht the Audi A6 Avant can and indeed is permitted to tow up to 2,100 kilograms (A6 Avant 2.8 quattro on gradients up to eight percent).

1998 Audi A6 Avant, Design

The Audi A6 Avant has achieved its own highly distinctive style, although its technological basis is shared with the saloon. The elegant, compact impression made by the A6 Avant’s silhouette is a result of the interplay between familiar design elements originally found in the saloon and the supreme style in which the designers have dealt with the estate-car body’s surfaces and curve radii. The dominant rear end, exciting contours and distinctive lines serve simultaneously to enhance the Avant’s visual appeal and achieve a high degree of product identification.
The Avant’s design is particularly notable for its dynamic side view. A gently rising window line, black centre roof posts and bold wheel arches serve to emphasise its innate energy. The Audi A6 Avant skilfully assimilates the familiar, innovative design aspects of the A6 saloon while continuing the tradition of its successful predecessor.

1998 Audi A6 Avant, Interior

The Audi A6 Avant with its three equal-value decor lines, which differ only in terms of visuals and materials, satisfies this trend. The Audi interior concept with its Advance, Ambition and Ambiente decors offers the customer a means of combining the exterior and interior in a manner aimed at creating a consistent overall impression. These decor lines all cost the same and have no effect on the choice of functional elements, equipment and engines. Each of them has its own individual character and differs in terms of the texture and appearance of the upholstery and the surface finish of the aluminium trim. For each style a specific type of leather is available at extra charge in different colours which, in a manner similar to the fabrics, can be combined with a selection of matching wood trims.

1998 Audi A6 Avant

Since its launch in 1977, the Avant product line has set the standards time and time again. With its exceptional level of technology and trend-setting design it has given new status to the luxury estate car segment and pushed development further forward with each new generation.
Over and above this, the A6 Avant has exemplary all-round features to offer. Within the same overall length as the Audi A6 saloon, the A6 Avant has a load area of 1590 litres with the rear seat folded down. The variable load area, which owners of an estate car know only too well to value, can be accessed in a more straightforward manner than on the previous model and, as a result, ensures a greater degree of functionality. The maximum through-loading width of the tailgate opening measures 1154 millimetres, the width between the wheel arches is 1056 millimetres and the maximum load-area length with the rear seat folded down is 1884 millimetres.
Fuel consumption and performance are almost identical with comparably equipped A6 saloons. In terms of aerodynamics, the Audi A6 Avant also qualifies for top marks. The drag coefficient cD is 0.29 and the frontal area measures 2.19 square metres.
The excellent value-for-money offered by the previous model has undergone systematic improvement. The comprehensive range of standard equipment well known from the saloon model is also supplied in the Audi A6 Avant. It includes central locking with remote control, electric windows at front and rear, automatic lap-and-diagonal seat belts with pyrotechnic tensioners for all five seats and front and side airbags. Apart from this, the standard equipment includes: ABS (anti-lock braking system), EDS (electronic differential lock), fog lights, five lightweight aluminium wheels, an outside temperature display, a comprehensive interior lighting package and an elastic luggage net. The fully-automatic air conditioning system, available as an option at no extra charge, rounds off this exceptional product offer.
