1998 Audi A6 Avant, Design

The Audi A6 Avant has achieved its own highly distinctive style, although its technological basis is shared with the saloon. The elegant, compact impression made by the A6 Avant’s silhouette is a result of the interplay between familiar design elements originally found in the saloon and the supreme style in which the designers have dealt with the estate-car body’s surfaces and curve radii. The dominant rear end, exciting contours and distinctive lines serve simultaneously to enhance the Avant’s visual appeal and achieve a high degree of product identification.
The Avant’s design is particularly notable for its dynamic side view. A gently rising window line, black centre roof posts and bold wheel arches serve to emphasise its innate energy. The Audi A6 Avant skilfully assimilates the familiar, innovative design aspects of the A6 saloon while continuing the tradition of its successful predecessor.
